Meatballs in Tomato Sauce


These meatballs are my moms recipe, i absolutely love making them!!!! So delicious and comforting. I remember bringing these to my old work place and when i had leftovers and my co-workers would come to the back room each time and tell me how amazing they smelled. They go so well over pasta. They are also very delicious over rice:)

For the meatballs:

  • 2 pounds extra lean ground beef
  • 2 onions, chopped super finely
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp black ground pepper
  • oil for frying
For the Sauce:
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 large carrot, chopped into thin pieces
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 1-2 clove garlic,minced

  1. Add all the ingredients for the meatballs in a bowl and mix very well with your hands
  2. Roll the meatballs with your hands
  3. Add oil to a skillet just enough to cover half of the meatballs
  4. Once oil is hot put the meatballs in
  5. On medium heat fry each side for about 5-10 minutes until golden brown
  6. Once meatballs are ready add into a medium sized pot
  7. After you have finished with frying all the meatballs add 4 cups of water into the pot and cover once it comes to a boil switch to lowest heat and steam for 20 minutes
  8. Meanwhile add the oil to a skillet and once hot add the carrots and onions
  9. On medium heat fry for about 8 minutes
  10. Once the time is up add the tomato paste and water and fry for another 3 minutes
  11. When there is 5 minutes remaining for the meatballs add the sauce and cover
  12. Add minced garlic last 3 minutes
  13. Serve hot over pasta(add olive oil and dried basil to the ready pasta)
  14. Or rice(love it over basmati)

Makes 27 meatballs
